This permanent, market-related role is designed for an experienced driver committed to safety, efficiency, and timely distribution.
As a critical part of Rainbow’s transportation network, the Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver will ensure the smooth and secure delivery of goods, supporting the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Operation & Safety: Safely operate ultra-heavy vehicles under all road conditions, conducting pre-trip inspections and ensuring vehicle readiness for the journey.
- Loading & Offloading: Manage the safe and compliant loading and offloading of goods, ensuring secure and legal load handling using tarpaulins or other appropriate methods.
- Customer Engagement: Serve as a professional representative of Rainbow when interacting with clients, dispatchers, and warehouse staff at delivery points.
- Compliance & Documentation: Maintain a clean driving record, adhere to all traffic regulations, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.
- Route Management: Efficiently follow designated delivery schedules and routes, with the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Age: 25 years or older.
- Experience: Proven expertise in long-distance or regional ultra-heavy vehicle driving.
- Skills: Strong verbal and numerical communication skills, along with a solid understanding of vehicle inspection, defensive driving, and legal compliance under the National Road Traffic Act.
- Safety First: A proactive approach to safety and compliance with all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
- Physical & Mental Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including loading, inspecting, and securing goods, while also demonstrating sharp attention to detail and record-keeping.
Key Competencies & Requirements:
- Expertise in defensive driving techniques, vehicle functions, emergency procedures, and legal weight limits.
- Ability to effectively use offloading equipment and ensure the safe handling of products.
- High literacy and numeracy skills, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to instructions.
- Compliant with South Africa’s National Road Traffic Act and committed to vehicle cleanliness and maintenance.
